What if women ruled the world and only gave birth to girls? It happened in Diamond City. A beautiful city run only by women becomes unraveled when a young senator discovers deep hidden secrets on how it came to exist.

Diamond City A Screenplay Lori Lesko 9781483985589 Books

The story is so amazingly bad and poorly thought out, it's a surefire win with a shadowcast in skimpy outfits screaming at the screen the entire time the movie is playing. It would be hilarious.

If I were a producer or director with the least bit idea of how to make a film, I would be all over this and searching for someone to write the musical score, because THIS little gem, my friends, is the next Rocky Horror Picture Show or Repo: The Genetic Opera!

Taking the Rocky Horror route, it suddenly wouldn't matter that our leading lady is a total Mary-Sue who never shows the slightest sign that she has been groomed for this position of power she knew her whole life that she would inherent, or even a shred of competence of any kind whatsoever.

It wouldn't matter that our villains are so hated from the start and weak in character, they may as well be running around with 'overthrow me' signs on their backs.

It wouldn't matter that our leading man is two-dimensional, with zero personality beyond being practically the last man in the world.

It wouldn't matter that this story utterly fails to look at basic factors of society (economics, politics, prison systems, the evolution of language to get rid of words that are no longer used!) and human nature (attraction, love, and how that would actually function in an all-female society).

It wouldn't matter that this script somehow manages to be utterly sexist toward men and women in one fell swoop.

Just put in cheesy musical numbers and a shadowcast and we have pure cult-classic gold in this one. I'm not even kidding!

Diamond City A Screenplay Lori Lesko 9781483985589 Books Reviews

Diamond City is a brilliantly-conceived idea for a film, with some truly memorable moments and a very thought-provoking premise! I look forward to seeing it on a screen near me soon and highly recommend a read to any producers out there who may be reading this. - Claire Elizabeth Terry. [...]
Diamond City is a wonderful screenplay with great characters. It captured my interest from the start, so much so I had pushed my own writing aside just to continue reading it. I didn't want to stop. I love Lori's imagination. The sci-fi world she created is awesome. I can totally see it as a movie on the Sci-Fi Channel. I totally recommend it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. It is fantastic science fiction. The world is layered; the drama thought-provoking. There were characters I loved and those I hated as well (it is okay I was supposed to hate them, they're the bad guys). I raced through it wanting to know what was going to happen next and then was so sad I had finished it so quickly; I went back and read it a second time. I quickly forgot I was reading a screenplay, something I haven't done since I took Shakespeare in college - which wasn't nearly this much fun.

This is a movie I'd watch readily and it is a piece of fiction I'm already recommending.
I am among the first to read and review Diamond City which is the screenplay version of Our Daughters.

Because I am only half way through the Novella my review will concentrate on the screenplay.

I know little, if anything about adapting the written word for the screen but this offering from Lori Lesko appears to me to have been very well executed.

It flows, changes of locations and times of day are clear and it is a brilliantly conceived conception for a film or even a television series.

The premise of the above is that women rule the world and create a city that is exactly as they want it to be.

Headed by a Senate, the women are permitted to only give birth to female children and the method of ensuring this will end in a catastrophe.

Quite by chance Helethia, daughter of one of the Senate leaders discovers a secret that turns her beliefs and faith in the cities existence upside down.

If you have never read a screenplay before, this one comes to you highly recommended.
It captures your imagination from the first page. Original plot focusing on human values with unexpected twists. It can make a great movie.
Lori took on huge project by adapting her book into a screenplay. This is no easy chore at all. You have to take 3-400 pages and turn it into a 110-120 script, sounds impossible, right? I guess not because Lori did it and in less time then most could have adapted a book. She did have an advantage, it was her book, but still a great deal of work. Big thumbs up to a good, well written script and congratulations to you Lori.
